Jewelry Guide: Jewelry Care

Don't lose your stones, get it checked!

The number one thing you can do to take care of your jewelry is to bring it to get it cleaned and checked on a regular basis. It is important to get your jewelry checked by an experienced jeweler because they can check on the security of the stones and if you have any loose stones, they can tighten them so that they don't fall out.

Take it off when cleaning and getting ready

Household and personal care products, such as lotions, hairspray, cosmetics and cleaning products can reduce the shine and luster of the metal and stones on your jewelry. Chlorine bleach can actually cause the gold in your jewelry to pit. We recommend removing your fine jewelry before using these products to prolong the life and beauty of your jewelry.

Cleaning your jewelry at home

To prevent scratching the metal we recommend using a soft-bristled brush or cloth and do your cleaning and rinsing in a small bowl instead of a sink, that way if you drop it or a stone comes loose they will fall into the bowl and not down the drain or onto the floor.

Storing your jewelry

When storing your jewelry, we recommend placing each piece individually in a soft cloth pouch or using a jewelry box that keeps them from touching. Diamonds, being the hardest substance on Earth, can scratch metals and other stones, so you don't want your jewelry rubbing against each other.

Insuring your jewelry

Jewelry insurance is relatively inexpensive and gives you protections in case your jewelry is lost or stolen. Insuring jewelry requires appraisal paperwork that describes the jewelry and its monetary value. We are experienced at doing appraisals and can give you information on insuring your jewelry.
